To say the least, it has been an unprecedented, incomprehensible past week in the world of sports. On Friday, the American Rivers Conference announced it was cancelling all conference spring sports due to the outbreak of COVID-19. There had been a glimmer of hope that Central would schedule some non-conference games, but that hope was likely diminished with Monday’s announcement that the college would be moving exclusively online classes for the remainder of the semester. Softball senior centerfielder and Pella alumna Sara Tallman says that the news that her final season is over is still difficult to process.

“For starters, I think it’s been the longest three or four days of my life, I think it’s definitely been a rollercoaster. We’ve learned that we don’t have a postseason anymore but hey, will still have a conference, nope, we don’t have a conference anymore. And we’re just kind of in that weird period where, like I just don’t know what to do with myself, and it’s just really hard to stay mentally stable this whole time.”

Central was scheduled to play several games in Florida this week during spring break. As it currently stands, the Dutch are 6-1 on the season.
