While spring sports teams would normally be preparing for their upcoming seasons at this time, events of the world have put that on hold. For the Pleasantville girls track and field team, it’s an excruciating waiting game on whether or not the season will resume. The Trojans have high expectations for the season with a plethora of state qualifiers returning this year. Head Coach Aaron Fichter says their performance at the UNI Indoor Meet a couple weeks ago affirmed just that.
“We have a really strong group of seniors, just real hungry kids that like to compete. And we have a nice mix of younger kids that can really help this year, and really the expectations are pretty high. We went to UNI, and the things we knew we’d be really competitive in, it kind of reaffirmed that. UNI is an all-class meet. It’s one of those things, they knew the work they’ve put in, they’ve gotten faster, and we have high expectations. We just hope we have a chance to do something about that.”
With April 13th as a general benchmark for when school and athletics may potentially resume, the Trojans would have only missed three meets at that point.
