The first day of spring ushered in the first severe thunderstorm warning of 2020 Thursday evening. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team was on the air from 6:55 to 7:25 p.m. for a warning impacting central Warren County and western Marion County, with five staff members contributing to coverage. Ping pong ball sized hail was reported south of Indianola, and dime sized hail west of Knoxville on Highway 92/5 and in the city of Pella. No major damage was reported, however, heavy rainfall fell throughout much of the region.

Pella – 1.77″
Knoxville – 1.69″
Lake Red Rock – 1.91″
Indianola (Middle River) – 1.66″

Much colder air is in place today as temperatures hover above the freezing mark, with winds gusting up to 20 MPH. The KNIA/KRLS Severe Weather Action Team is on the air for any severe thunderstorm or tornado warning for any portion of Marion and Warren Counties, with backup generators ensuring the coverage stays on if the power goes out.
