As Marion County continues to adjust to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, courthouse procedures have also been impacted. According to Marion County Attorney Ed Bull, the County is currently seeking to have every case be systematically continued through May 4th, 2020. Bull tells KNIA/KRLS News if people have a court date and are wondering if their case is affected, they need to call their lawyer immediately. He says every lawyer’s phone number that does business in Marion County will have their phone number on the Marion County website for people to reference. Bull says, if a person is a pro se litigant or a person who does not have an attorney and is representing themselves, they need to call the County Clerk of Court. He says anyone who calls the Clerk of Court needs to be mindful as they are currently processing over 1,000 cases. According to Bull the County Clerk of Court office is still open to the public. He says anyone seeking protective orders, mental health commitment or substance abuse commitment can still go to the Clerk of Court in person, fill out those requests and be seen by a judge.
