indianola-3

After being secondary scoring options in their junior seasons but being nearly the only players on the roster with any varsity experience, seniors Tyce Johnson and AJ Toigo knew they would have to be leaders on the Indianola boys basketball squad. Head coach Brett Watson knew from the offseason that they would be exactly the type of players he knew he could rely on.

“At the end of last year we really challenged them to be leaders, and we couldn’t have asked for more from what they’ve shown us on and off the floor. Neither of them are vocal leaders, that’s just not their demeanor, but it was about the example they set. From the end of last season through this season they were always in the gym and the weightroom, and you could tell the other guys picked up on that and it was a huge part of our success was their leadership.”

Toigo and Johnson led the Indians in scoring this season with 17.7 and 16.5 points per game respectively, and led the Indians to a 19-4 overall record.
