Governor Kim Reynolds recently signed a proclamation ordering the accrual of penalties and interest associated with property tax collections be suspended until April 16th. According to Marion County Treasurer Michaela Bigaouette the proclamation has resulted in confusion among residents when it comes to their property taxes. Bigaouette tells KNIA/KRLS News property taxes are still being collected and are still due April 1st. She says property taxes are still being collected and the only difference is that no penalties will occur after April 1st through April 16th. Bigaouette says that she understands residents have been impacted financially because of the COVID-19 situation but she says instead of panicking about property taxes she asks residents who have issues or questions, call the Treasurer’s Office so they can help. Bigaoutte says, although the Treasurer’s Office is currently closed to the public the staff is still working and can be contacted via phone or email. She says they will work with residents with their own personal situation and help them set up a payment plan if needed.
