The COVID-19 pandemic has had an impact on the calls for service the Indianola emergency departments have seen over the last month. The Indianola Fire Department has seen a decrease in overall calls compared to last year at this time.
From January to March 1st, fire department calls were on pace to exceed the number from 2019
2019 – 383 calls
2020 – 400 calls
But for the month of March, the department has seen a slight decrease compared to 2019
2019 – 179
2020 – 152
2019 total through this week – 562
2020 total through this week – 552
According to Indianola Police Captain Brian Sher, the Indianola Police Department is still functioning as normal, but crime is down across the board except for domestic disturbance calls.
