A shortened track and field season is likely for our area teams with the COVID-19 pandemic and most coaches are concerned how that will affect their athletes. Melcher-Dallas Girls Coach Amy Stuart tells KNIA Sports there will be challenges with a shortened season and not having a lot of opportunities for the athletes to know where they stack up in the state or the qualifying meets.
Stuart:
“Obviously it’s going to be a shortened season if we get to come back when this period is over with, then it’s going to be time for state and state qualifying meets, so there’s going to be a lot of challenges with that.”
The state has released the state qualifying sites…and Stuart adds it would make knowing who the competition is more a challenge with a shortened season.
