The South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency announced the temporary closure of it’s offices and scale houses due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Director of the South Central Iowa Solid Waste Agency, Rick Hurt tells KNIA/KRLS News during the closure the agency will continue to receive waste and recycling from residents and haulers and will maintain their regular hours, however, all communications with customers will be done through the scale house window only. He says all offices will be locked down and only agency personnel will be permitted to enter the buildings. Hurt says agency personnel will not be available to help with any loading or unloading of materials. Hurt asks that anyone visiting the landfill come prepared by bringing hand wipes and sanitizer as the restrooms will not be available. He says anyone wishing to bring items to the landfill needs to bring enough people with them to offload the items on their own. In addition to the closure, Hurt says the agency has also shut down the Household Hazardous Waste Acceptance Program at this time and customers are asked to hold onto their items until after the closure.
