While spring sports is on hold for a while, area athletic directors can now reflect on the fall and winter seasons for their schools. While Twin Cedars did not have any teams make the state tournament or playoffs so far this year the Cross Country Squad put the Sabers in the spotlight this fall with girls runner Rylee Dunkin, as a freshman finishing seventh at the state meet. Athletic Director Trent Verwers tells KRLS Sports while he is not seeing right now, he knows the success of one sport will breed success, of other sports.
Verwers:
“It set the tone for other sports as well. You see other sports do well and that spours other sports to do well. We haven’t seen that yet, but hopefully we can get this track season in and the summer sports that people realize we have some competitors here.”
Verwers is hopeful the track and field seasons can get going since many of the girls he coached this season in cross country and basketball can have a chance to run in Des Moines, plus the softball and baseball squads are looking to have good seasons.
