The immediate concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic shut down for high school sports is are we going to have a spring sports season. One concern is summer and fall sports. Football coaches around the state got their schedules last week and for Knoxville that means the preparation is on for the 2020 season. However, if sports is still on hold when summer workouts begin, what is the plan? Knoxville Coach Eric Kellar tells KRLS Sports it may be just like what is going on now and hopes that places like the Recreation Center is open. All he can do in the spring as the boys track and field coach is send workout plans to his team and hope they take the initiative to get in shape.
Kellar:
“We looked at it a little bit, and if those places are open, some kids aren’t going to be able to afford a membership so they’re not going to be able to go there, then it comes down to how badly are those kids going to want to get into shape. I’m going to give you this stuff and they know what to do with my classes at school, but are they going to do it?”
Kellar hopes by the summer that restrictions are lifted and he can gather his team together to begin summer workouts.
