Seniors living in retirement communities have been left to live in isolation during the COVID-19 pandemic, and Hearthstone is hoping to lift the spirits of their residents with an event this Sunday. Hearthstone, a Ministry of Wesleylife, is encouraging community members to come greet seniors by starting a line of cars heading east on Independence Street, north on East 2nd Street, looping through the north side of the Fair Haven/Pella Manor property, and then head south on East 3rd Street from 4 to 4:30 p.m. this Sunday. Those who participate are encouraged to drive by and wave, honk, or hold up an encouraging banner or sign to Hearthstone residents, all while adhering to social distancing guidelines set out by the CDC and Iowa Department of Public Health. Families can submit pre-written messages at the Hearthstone Facebook page, and those messages will be read aloud, alongside some 1960s music, during the event on 92.1 KRLS. The deadline to submit messages is this Saturday at 5 p.m. (SEE POST BELOW)
