As local schools continue to be closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Knoxville Community School District continues to do everything possible to make sure students are fed and in the highest spirits. The district will continue to provide meals to all students throughout the duration of the closure. Pick up will continue to occur in the student parking lot of the high school from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM, however, this week meals will only be picked up Monday through Thursday according to Knoxville Schools Superintendent Cassi Pearson.
Pearson says all students who take part in the meal pickup will still receive meals for everyday, but instead of coming in on Friday to get Friday’s meal, they will get both Thursday and Friday meals on Thursday due to Friday being a paid holiday for staff. She says meal pickup will go back to normal the following week.
In addition to the meals being provided, district staff will also be participating in a Panther Staff on the Prowl event tomorrow at 1 p.m. The Panther Staff on the Prowl event will feature teachers and staff members driving through the Knoxville community to wave and say hi to students and community members. Parking locations to watch the event are available at Northstar Elementary, West Elementary, Auld Park and the Knoxville Downtown Square. Anyone wishing to participate or watch the event is asked to remember social distancing rules and to remain in their vehicles and at a safe distance.
