On Monday, Knoxville Mayor Brian Hatch in response to Governor Kim Reynolds proclamation closing more businesses and public areas throughout the state, closed all Knoxville skate parks, basketball courts, tennis courts, baseball fields, dog parks, and shelter houses to the public until at least April 30th.
Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams tells KNIA/KRLS News the decision to close everything is difficult but he feels it is the right thing for the people of Knoxville. Adams says the city has received many complaints about the number of people congregating at the skate park and understands the residents are having trouble dealing with social isolation but he says it is in the best interest of everyone to close everything to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
Park green spaces and Competine Trail will both remain open for families to enjoy, however, the city strongly encourages residents to follow all social distancing guidelines while doing so.
