All track and field athletes are in limbo right now. The state mandated shut down due to the COVID-19 pandemic has everyone wondering when or if the track and field season will resume on May first. Melcher-Dallas Athletic Director Jim Crozier tells KNIA Sports this year was supposed to be a great year for the Saints with several athletes in line for a chance to run at the state meet.

Crozier:
“Some really good track athletes, our boys and girls track programs, we don’t know if they’ll get to run on the Blue Oval this season, and you really feel for those kids because they don’t get an extra year of eligibility.”

Unlike the NCAA seniors will not get an extra year of eligibility so if there is no season, they will lose that season. Crozier adds it is not just seniors many of the freshmen-through-juniors will also lose a season if spring sports does not happen this year.
