The COVID-19 pandemic not only has put a temporary shut down to high school sports, but cancelled college level athletics across the board from NCAA to NAIA. One of many local athletes that were affected by the cancellation of the college spring sports season is Former Knoxville Boys Golf Standout Tyler Vaske, who is a member of the Grand View University Men’s Golf Squad. Vaske tells KRLS Sports the disappointing thing about the cancellation of his season was the team was poised to challenge for an NAIA National Championship.
Vaske:
“We were expecting a National Championship run and going down to Arizona and challenging for a national championship and conference championship. The team we had the seniors we had it’s disappointing that we didn’t get that ride and that final road to the National Championship. I’m going to be a sophomore so hopefully I have another three years.”
Like the NCAA, the NAIA also is offering seniors an extra year of eligibility, but Vaske says none of the seniors will return because they had jobs already lined up after graduation. Vaske hopes to begin his sophomore season this fall and next spring. You can hear a complete interview with Vaske on tonight’s Radio Sports Page at six on 92.1 KRLS.
