Local high school athletic directors will be turning on the lights at their stadiums as part of a statewide effort to recognize students who have been missing school.
Last week, Indianola, Pella Christian, Knoxville, PCM, Twin Cedars, and Melcher-Dallas turned on the lights at their football stadiums for fifteen minutes — each representing a day of school missed.
Tonight, the lights will be on at Pella High School as well as some of the others who participated last week from 8:00 to 8:20. Knoxville is not participating.
The practice will continue on Fridays for the remainder of the school year as long as buildings are closed and social distancing rules allow.
At Pella Christian, students, parents, fans and constituents are invited to drive the loop through their campus on Eagle Lane at that time. Cars should enter the front of campus via Eagle Lane, drive past the tennis courts, turn right towards the stadium and exit left past the baseball and softball fields and exit towards Old Hwy 163.
Those who come to ask the events are asked to adhere to state and federal social distancing guidelines during this time. Facilities will be closed and anyone who does come by need to stay in their vehicles.
