Tom Wilkins has been hired as the new head coach of the Pleasantville boys basketball team. The hire comes after Joel Allman stepped away from the role to focus on his new role as Activities Director. Wilkins says after Allman reached out in regards to taking over the position, it was an easy decision to hire within the district, especially with Wilkins’ previous coaching experience.
“Earlier this week, Mr. Allman and I did get together on a Google Hangout. And he told me it wasn’t much of an interview, it was more of a conversation. In this strange time we’re living in, I don’t know how many actual applicants they did have, but I do know our school likes to hire within. I guess what he told me was with the experience I’ve had over the years, that I was a candidate they were looking at. So we talked for about an hour on Monday, had a school board meeting on Tuesday night that I listened in to, and I was approved. So I guess I’m back at the helm.”
Wilkins has eight years of prior head coaching experience within the program. He led the Trojans from 2001-2003 and 2009-2015.
