Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds issued an order to not reopen the schools for the remainder of the school year. Superintendent Art Sathoff tells KNIA News he knows the students in the district are going through a lot, so providing them with continuing education opportunities may help bring a sense of normalcy.
“This is obviously something they didn’t ask for, and it is a tremendous disruption especially for our seniors and we want to help them get through in good shape. And we also don’t want to put our freshman through juniors behind the 8-ball with credits or content. We are going to have to work hard to make sure kids are getting what they need, communicating with students and families about what they need to complete, and then next fall we will have to take a good look at our pacing and standards, and anticipating any gaps there might be and try to fill those in so we can move forward in good shape.”
The closing officially cancels the spring sports season, and a decision will be made on the baseball/softball summer season on June 1st.
