The Pella City Council approved a clubhouse management agreement for Bos Landen Golf Course with MK Golf, Inc., at their meeting Tuesday evening.

Council approved a resolution that would pay MK Golf, Inc. for operation of day-to-day operations of the clubhouse including all golf events, private parties, and facility rentals, which also encompasses staff. The City of Pella would be responsible for building maintenance of the entire facility including the golf course, irrigation system, driving range, and clubhouse.

The agreement would have the City of Pella pay $14,166 per month through the remainder of 2020, with a slight increase in that fee in 2021 and again in 2022 to $15,618 monthly. MK Golf would also receive 10% of gross revenues related to green fees, cart rentals, and facility rentals, as well as all proceeds from food, beverage, and merchandise.

MK Golf currently operates Edmundson and Harvest Point Golf Courses in Oskaloosa. Matt Sherlock manages both, and is the president of the Iowa PGA Board of Directors, and made a brief comment to council prior to approval, expressing excitement to take over operations at Bos Landen.

“Thanks for the opportunity to the City of Pella,” he said. “We’ve received lots of positive feedback from people and golfers that are very excited — and we’re excited too.”

“The next three years are going to go by fast, but we are ready to make a dent and see what we can do at that property.”

Warrior Golf was the previous operator of Bos Landen, and was in charge of the course from summer of 2014 until this past winter. Warrior Golf filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in spring of 2019.

The agreement starts Wednesday, with the course expected to open sometime in May, pending any restrictions in place due to ongoing social distancing guidelines related to COVID-19.
