Like all spring sports teams, the Central Track and Field teams had their seasons cancelled. Now that the students have moved back home, the focus has shifted almost exclusively to finishing the academic year on a strong note in the virtual classroom. Head Coach Brandon Sturman says that while things are unusual now, it gives his athletes the opportunity for an easy transition into normal summer workouts and a headstart on preparation for next season.
“Now we’re moving forward with a modified training plan, then hopefully things will clear up and we can get into a normal summer training plan. But right now our main goal is for our kids to focus on school and kind of adjust to that change, and make sure they’re getting their academics completed. The only positive that comes out of it is now that our season is cancelled, we don’t have to prepare for a season in the fall. So we have plenty of time to get back to where we need to be, and kind of get ourselves going for next year.”
The Dutch had mostly completed the indoor season, with only the national meet being cancelled before the rest of the outdoor season was cancelled. Central will say goodbye to five senior women and eight senior men, none of whom plan to use the extra season of eligibility granted by the NCAA.
