In a letter to parents Thursday, the Knoxville Community School District updated parents on the district’s plans in regards to prom and graduation as well as the plan for second semester grades. This year’s prom has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however all 2020 graduates will be able to attend spring 2021 prom for free. In addition the Class of 2020 took part in a ZOOM meeting on Thursday to help plan for graduation and more information will be provided in the next few weeks.
In the meantime, the district will continue to celebrate the Class of 2020 on Facebook. The then & now cards which are part of the Senior Spotlights residents have been seeing on Facebook will be made into yard signs. They will soon be available for viewing at the high school campus and then given to graduates to display in their yards or windows.
In regards to second semester grades the district says for elementary students there will only be three quarters of report cards this school year. Parents will receive the third quarter report cards along with desk items once the district is able to coordinate a pick up plan.
Middle school students will not be receiving any second semester grades with the exception of Algebra and Geometry students. According to the district, there is no need for middle students to complete any make-up work; however, the district strongly encourages them to continue learning online and like the elementary students the district is working on a plan for students to retrieve their remaining locker items.
High school students will be receiving grades of pass or no credit for the second semester. All students who were passing as of March 12th will receive a “P” on their transcript. Students who were not passing will be contacted by teachers to complete make-up work or retake tests that were given between January 14 – March 12. This will allow all students the opportunity to pass their classes. Passing grades do not affect GPA. First semester GPA will be used for the entire 2019-20 school year. Information about locker clean out and textbook returns will be coming soon as well.
