If school would have been allowed to resume on May 1st, this Friday would have been the start of spring sports and battery workouts for high school baseball. After the announcement that schools would be closed for the rest of the academic year, June 1st is now the earliest that summer sports could start. Normally, pitchers and catchers would get extra time to prepare before the rest of the team starts, but PCM Baseball coach Jeff Lindsay says it’s hard to say how those workouts will be affected, and they may have to start when the rest of the team does.
“Originally when they were going with the May 18th starting date for practice, pitchers and catchers were going to be able to start throwing May 1st. But now that it’s been pushed back to June 1st as a starting date, and now that school is off the board for now for the rest of the school year, I don’t know exactly what type of guidelines they’ll set in order for coaches to start working with the pitchers and catchers.”
A decision on summer sports is expected to be made before June 1st. If the season starts as currently planned, PCM would open the season on June 2nd at Pella.
