Traditionally, they are the top ambassadors for the City of Pella during the annual Tulip Time celebration, but with the festival cancelled and their tour around the state halted, the 2020 Tulip Queen and Royal Court have tried to make the most of a lost spring. Juliana Van Gorp (2018), and Olivia Vander Leest (2019), are among the Tulip Queens of the past offering messages of support to the current Queen Hanna Kendall and the royal court. All three have reached out to Kendall, and say they are heartbroken over the loss of the springtime tradition for this year’s group. Van Vark, Van Gorp, and Vander Leest all say this year’s court has done an admirable job of finding ways to still engage with others and promote the best Pella has to offer.
