Last fall Melcher-Dallas Runner J’Lyn Knutson dealt with a hip injury that threatened to derail her cross country season. She pushed through to make the state meet ultimately finishing in 55th. Now healthy, she was also looking to have a stellar track and field season with a chance of making multiple state meet events. But when the state shut down spring sports for good a couple of weeks ago, her season was over. While heartbroken that she will not get the chance to qualify for the State Track and Field Meet four years in a row, she also thought about her teammates who will never get that chance either.
Knutson:
“Just that my goal of going to state track and cross country all four years was over because technically I can’t go for four years, then after I got that through my head my thoughts went to Emery, because he’s done.”
Her teammate Emery Sage is a senior, so his career is over. Knutson adds Sage was a great teammate and was always willing to go for a run to get ready for the season. Knutson is a junior so she will return to Melcher-Dallas this fall to run cross country and take to the track in the spring of 2021 for her senior season.
