Governor Kim Reynolds latest recommendations has allowed restaurants, fitness centers, and other businesses to be partially reopened, provided they are at 50% capacity as well as take other safety precautions. City of Indianola Community and Economic Development Director Charlie Dissell tells KNIA News the 50% capacity is a little more complicated than it sounds.
“It’s calculated off of the type of business, square footage, things like that. A lot of people look at it as I have 50 seats in my restaurant, now 25 people can come in. That is not always the case. So what the building code looks at is the type of use, and requires a certain amount of square footage per person to be available. And when we look at the square footage, it is space the public can access. We also get a lot of questions about guidelines for businesses, it isn’t easy to put out there because we have to look at things on a case by case basis.”
Dissell also said if there are any businesses with questions, business owners and employees should not hesitate to call the Economic Development department and they will help answer questions. For more information on the regulations, click below.
