With the majority of the varsity roster performing as seniors last year and a lost year in 2020, the Indianola boys tennis team will have a different look in the future. Head coach Jamie Busby tells KNIA Sports the program growing bodes well for next season.
“Last year’s group of seniors was a really great group. It was the first group of seniors that I have had as a coach all the way through for four years. Of course that left some big holes, 8 of the 10 varsity spots were lost to graduation. But definitely the hope is that we’ve had 40, and I thought maybe this year we could have gotten to 50 guys on the team, and I think that just building the program like that and seeing the success of those guys that played for four years, and saw that if you stay dedicated and play as much as you can you can get a varsity letter. We knew going in that this year was going to be a rebuilding year, but our younger guys had good role models to look up to.”
The Indians went 8-4 last season, including an upset against Norwalk in their final regular season contest.
