The City of Pella’s telecommunications initiative, Pella Fiber, is now taking signups for site surveys—the first step in bringing fiber optic technology to local homes and businesses.

Site surveys, as well as the fiber drop installation needed to get a home or business fiber ready, are done at no charge during the rollout period. Everyone in the Pella City Limits can sign up for a site survey at pellafiber.com.

“We’re really encouraging you to head to the website and sign up, because this is a $350 value you can get right now for free, with no commitment to purchase Pella Fiber services,” explained Customer Service Manager Keetah Dodson. “It’s a huge benefit to our community in terms of increased property values and quality of lifestyle, so we want to get as many homes and businesses on board as early as possible.”

Pella Fiber will provide high-speed internet access, cable television and voice services. All homes will get one gigabit per second (Gbps) internet download and upload speeds with no data limits. Residential bundles, including TV and phone services, will be introduced in the coming months. Special packages and internet speeds designed for businesses will also be available.

Pella Fiber services are offered with no contracts and are projected to be ready for customers to take advantage of in spring 2021.

“Now more than ever, Pella community members and businesses value the speed and quality of our internet connections,” said Dodson. “We’re pleased to launch this project to deliver a cutting-edge service previously not available in Pella.”

Two years ago, Pella citizens overwhelmingly approved forming Pella Fiber with a 92% support level. After a bid process, the City Council awarded the construction contract to Excel Utility Contractors on April 21. Construction of the network is projected to start in May of this year and be completed by the end of 2020.

Pella Fiber is a municipal utility managed by the City of Pella offering internet, phone and TV service. As a homegrown initiative, Pella Fiber is uniquely dedicated to providing reliable connections to the people and businesses in the Pella community. Fiber delivery will be available to all addresses inside the corporate limits.
