When the NCAA announced the cancellation of the spring sports season, they granted athletes an extra year of eligibility. Three members of Central College’s softball class of 2020 announced this week they are planning to take advantage of the extra year to play for the Dutch next spring.
Centerfielder Sarah Tallman of Pella, first baseman Amanda Sigulas and designated player Kaitlyn Andresen will wear the red-and-white for one more season after having their traditional senior year stripped away.
It’s a boon for the Dutch, who finished the abbreviated campaign with a 6-1 record and were ranked eighth in the country in the final NFCA poll. Tallman, Sigulas and Andresen are all multi-year starters for the Dutch, and they’ll be part of a loaded team that will likely be the preseason American Rivers Conference favorite, as well as a contender to return to the NCAA national tournament for the first time since 2013.
