The cancellation of the spring sports season is a major life event for all involved. For teams expecting to compete at the highest level, the thought of not getting to have the season play out is especially difficult. However, Pleasantville girls track and field coach Aaron Fichter says that it’s equally difficult for even the teams that were going to rebuild this season, as now no one gets that chance.

“We had legitimate expectations to not only medal, not only qualify a bunch of things, but maybe surprise some people in certain events. But it’s equally important for teams that were trying to build for next year, or they were trying to qualify for the first time in so many years. All of those chances that everybody else had are gone. And so, we’re not the exception to that, we’re part of that, and everybody else is going through it, so you just make do with it. Obviously going to miss this group, and we’ve just got to find a way to honor their time and make the most of next year.”

Seven seniors will depart the program. A complete interview with Fichter can be heard on today’s KNIA Radio Coaches Corner at 9:00 a.m. on 94.3 and 95.3 KNIA.
