The Knoxville School Board met in regular session Monday. The board approved the 2020 Graduation List as well as set a public hearing regarding the revised 2020-2021 Calendar. The calendar features a school start date of August 20th for the district, and comes after Governor Kim Reynolds waived the requirement for districts to start school after August 23rd.

They approved  2020-2021 school fees and substitute pay rates as well as approved an updated COVID-19 policy and updated financial policies.

The board considered a proposal for additional West Elementary classrooms to which the board approved the purchase of a new two-classroom portable unit from JMO Modular for a total purchase price of $141,000. The classrooms are needed as the district has experienced unexpected growth in their special education program that requires additional space. According to the district they need two additional classrooms until a further expansion of the school can be completed.

The board approved a waterworks request for the water tower next to Ken Locke Stadium. Knoxville Schools Superintendent Cassi Pearson explained to the board the reason for the request was to add a second logo to the tower. The additional logo will cost the district $15,000 as the new logo is bigger and requires more colors be used compared to the old logo.

The board also set an additional May board meeting date for Tuesday, May 26th.
