Wrestling may be the key to an incredible senior season to come for a Pella High School junior who has committed to a national power to keep playing football.

Kody Huisman will wear the Green and Gold of North Dakota State University in 2021, hopefully after three more competitive seasons in the green and white of the Dutch, starting next fall on the gridiron.

Huisman was an All-State Football Player this past fall and likely would have been competing for a medal at the state meet next week in the discus if this spring would have played out under normal circumstances. But Huisman says his stellar wrestling season — his first ever competing on the mat, gave him new confidence that the next team he hits the field for Pella, he’ll be even more ready to take his game to a higher level.

“I came into the wrestling season thinking it would just be for an experience, just to do it and see if I could wrestle,” he says. “Honestly, it built me more as a person — I did not expect any of things that happened during that time to happen like it did.”

In his rookie wrestling season, Huisman qualified for the state wrestling meet in the 220 pound weight class.
