After almost 40 years in law enforcement, with the last 15 serving as the Knoxville Police Chief, Dan Losada hung up the badge for the last time Friday following a special Facebook Live event in which Losada gave his final 10-42.
Chief Losada was surprised by his mother who responded to the 10-42 followed by the Marion County Dispatch acknowledging the code.
A 10-42 or Out of Service code is a meaningful event in the career and life of a police officer. According to Knoxville City Manager Aaron Adams, Lt. Corey Derby will serve as interim chief until the next chief is announced. According to Adams, the city is down to its top three finalists for the job and he expects a choice to be made next week.
