The Knoxville Girls Tennis Squad had a lot of promise this spring before the season was cancelled. The Panthers had to replace their number one singles player from last season who had graduated. Three-to-four girls were vying for that role and now they will never know who or how they would have done. Coach Nick DeMoss tells KRLS Sports, the players coming back have an opportunity to get a head start on 2021 by just making time on their own to work on their game.
DeMoss:
“The rest of our girls just hold your heads up and we’re in this time to keep playing for next year. With all those clubs being down, those other girls aren’t practicing and this is your time to step up.”
Knoxville does not have a feeder program in the middle school level, so many freshmen coming out have barely held a racket. DeMoss adds since he does not teach at Knoxville he is at a disadvantage of not knowing the girls, but does rely on current team members to recruit talent from the middle school.
