With the cancellation of the spring sports season, the hopes and dreams of student-athletes were crushed. For the Pleasantville girls track and field team, it was a missed opportunity for a potential record-breaking season. Head Coach Aaron Fichter says one event in particular that finished in the bottom of the pack at state last year had all the ingredients to vault up the leaderboard this year.
“Our 4×200 finished 21st last year, and I actually think that was going to surprise people, just how we were running in practices and how the kids improved in the offseason. I felt like that would’ve been a surprise for us. When we went to UNI, I think they finished 14th out of 100-some teams, and it was an all-class. I think they were second out of 2A schools. But I honestly thought we could do something with that.”
That meet at the University of Northern Iowa was the only meet the Trojans got to this season, but it was more than many other teams were able to. Seven seniors depart the program.
