One of a handful of dual spring sports athletes at Pella High School missed out on trying to lead two teams to their respective state events.
Roselande Vanderhoff was a key sprinter on the 5th place Lady Dutch track and field team and the state bound Pella girls soccer team in 2019, and the junior was aiming to split duties between the two again and play even bigger roles on both squads — and the challenge of staying ready physically to handle the demands of both.
Vanderhoff was a part of the runner-up 4×100 and 4×200 teams last year, with the goal of pushing those groups to the top of the 3A leaderboards this season.

A Pella Christian track athlete who came from a split household in the Tulip City will follow his older brother’s path to college, just a few miles west. David Bernhagen will compete for Dordt University next year on the track and field programs. David says older brother Nick was a Pella High School standout who now competes for rival Northwestern, and says it’s been good to have that advice about the next level.
