Tomorrow is Memorial Day, a federal holiday designated for honoring and mourning the military personnel who had died while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Originally known as Decoration Day, it originated in the years following the Civil War and became an official federal holiday in 1971. This year’s Memorial Day festivities will be impacted as the country continues to stay socially distant due to COVID-19. As a way to show solidarity and to continue to celebrate Memorial Day, local veterans groups ask that residents, if they are able, post a flag at their home as a way to honor and remember the service members who paid the ultimate price for their country.
