After the Iowa High School Athletic Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union boards voted to allow summer sports to return after Governor Kim Reynolds lifted restrictions on those activities, it’s now up to local districts to decide the future of their own teams.
Some school districts in Iowa have decided not to allow the sports to go on, the first of which was Belmond-Klemme, just days after the announcement, with several others considering.
Regardless of who decides to play or not, the schedules will be left at the local and conference level, according to IHSAA Communications Director Chris Cuellar.
While the baseball playoff timeline remains the same, the girls regional playoffs schedule has been adjusted to begin on July 13th, giving an extra week for the regular season games to be played.
The state softball tournament is scheduled July 27th through July 31st at the Rogers Complex in Fort Dodge, and state baseball will be held at Principal Park July 24th through August 1st.
Additional guidelines for return to play will be released this week.
