One of the biggest what ifs of the 2020 spring season that ultimately wasn’t, included a Pella boys tennis team that was a few points away from capturing state gold last season.
Pella’s boys tennis team were likely contenders to be playing today in what would have been the first day of the 2020 state meet. After their runner-up thriller came down to the final match in 2019, several players were returning from that squad, including individual state qualifiers Jack Edwards and Jordan Roozeboom.
For Roozeboom, 2020 was a missed chance to cement his legacy as perhaps the most accomplished individual boys tennis player in program history. A two-time individual qualifier, Roozeboom has been the No. 1 player in the Pella tennis lineup since he started his career as a freshman in 2017, which included a run to the team state quarterfinals in his freshman campaign and another qualifying bid in 2018. He was disappointed he didn’t have a chance to show how much farther he had come after an offseason of work to try and push the Dutch to a team championship this spring.
