A Knoxville man was killed in a motorcycle crash between Swan and Runnells near the Marion and Warren County border Saturday afternoon.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Gary Eugene Bender, 48, of Knoxville was traveling northbound on Highway 316 north of Cleveland Street just before 3 p.m., and when navigating a curve, left the travel portion of the road to the right, which overturned the motorcycle. Bender was thrown into a tree, causing fatal injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the site, and possibly other area agencies.
