The Knoxville Recreation Center will open its doors for the first time Monday after over two months of being closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the Rec Center, East Elementary Park, Auld Park, the dog park, Young’s Park, Brooks Garden and the tennis courts, basketball courts and playground will all be open to the public. Knoxville Parks and Recreation Director Brandon Nemmers tells KNIA/KRLS News some of the other restrictions and guidelines that have been implemented at the Recreation Center to help keep people safe. He says per Governor Reynolds, the pool can only host lap swim and private swim lessons. Limits will be posted on each room throughout the center letting patrons know the correct number of people allowed in each area. Nemmers says fitness classes will be on land only with a maximum number of nine participants. The gymnasium will be closed during fitness classes and will have the curtain drawn to cut the area in half for personal and family recreation during open gym times. No pickup basketball games will be allowed at this time. He says every area of the center will adhere to the rule of six feet of social distancing.
According to Nemmers the Recreation Center staff will be continuously working to keep the center as clean as possible, however Nemmers asks that residents continue to show patience and understanding as they try to work through the new guidelines from the state.
