High school summer sports begin today across the state, and it will likely prove to be a major relief for high school students who have missed out on several opportunities over the past few months. While things may be different than a normal season, many consider it a blessing that the season is happening. PCM Activities Director Greg Bonnett says that cautious optimism will be exhibited throughout, and that everyone involved is thrilled to get back underway.
“I think everyone is really happy to see kids out on a field playing ball again. I think it’s a cautious optimism, I think there are people that would go either way. Some people think that it should happen. Some people think that it shouldn’t happen. But it’s up to us as communities in general to do everything we can to keep it as safe as we possibly can. I, for one, am happy about it. I think we can pull it off, I think we can do a great job. One thing I can tell you, the baseball and softball players, they are the most excited about it. They’re ready to go, as you can imagine.”
Teams across Iowa will get two weeks of preseason practices before the first competition date of June 15th. PCM’s baseball and softball teams will both host South Hamilton that night to begin the season.
