Most races for Pella voters to consider will be uncontested in the 2020 Primary Elections today. Within their parties, State Representative Dustin Hite and State Senator Ken Rozenboom both announced their intention to run, and neither incumbent will receive a challenge from another Republican. However, Democrat Lance Roorda is on the ballot for today’s primary, and will be the challenger to Rozenboom’s two-term seat this November. Representative Jon Thorup and Senator Amy Sinclair are both running unopposed in the primary and general election.
For federal races, two contested spots are on the ballot — Democrats are seeking a challenger to incumbent Senator Joni Ernst — and Michael Franken, Kimberly Graham, Theresa Greenfield, and Eddie Mauro are on the primary ballot.
Democrat Rita Hart is running unopposed today to be on the ballot to replace retiring Representative Dave Loebsack; Republicans have five candidates contesting that spot, including:
Tim Borchardt
Steven Everly
Mariannette Miller-Meeks
Rick Phillips
Bobby Shilling
Locally, the only Marion County office being contested is for Sheriff, as incumbent Republican Jason Sandholdt is receiving a challenge from former Marion County Deputy Jeff Koder, with the winner of today’s vote likely taking the seat in November, as there is no Democratic opposition on the ballot. Supervisors Stephen McCombs and Mark Raymie, as well as Auditor Jake Grandia, are all running as Republicans with no challengers from either party.
