When Dale Otte took over the Pella athletics program in 2011, he did so after the beloved Bill Van Horn retired, leaving a legacy of building the Pella programs to the success they’ve now enjoyed consistently under Otte’s watch.
Dale says he’s thankful for the year he did get to spend with Bill before he died following a battle with cancer in July of 2012.
The Little Hawkeye Conference traveling championship adorns Bill Van Horn’s name, and since that honor was announced, Pella has won the overall conference title every season from 2013-2019. The Bill Van Horn Wrestling Invitational is also named in honor of the former AD and wrestling coach.
