High school summer sports practices are now in full swing across the state. Teams are certainly grateful for the opportunity to have a season after a turbulent spring. However, the outlook was not always certain. PCM Activities Director Greg Bonnett was pleasantly surprised by the decision, and says it’s up to each school to provide a safe environment with mitigation procedures.
“I was honestly surprised. I was getting a lot of information where I really didn’t think it was going to happen there. And us as AD’s were going up and down. There would be days where we had hope, and then there’d be days where we didn’t have any hope at all. For the last week or so, we were all thinking there was no hope. And when they came out and announced it, I think it caught everyone by surprise. Now we have guidance, and it’s a matter of just taking a look and making common sense approaches to each one of our facilities, how we can keep people safe and engage in the Covid mitigation processes.”
The Mustangs, along with all other teams in the state, will have at least seven more practice days before the first competition. Both the PCM baseball and softball teams will host South Hamilton on June 15th to get the season underway.
