Another arrest has been made in connection with a multi-jurisdictional effort to intercept sexual predators in Marion County.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with the Pella Police Department, Marion County Attorney’s Office, Department of Homeland Security, and Mid Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Drug Task Force, arrested Roberto Lopez Gomez, 41, of Omaha, Nebraska. He was taken into custody at the Pella Walmart Friday evening without incident, and is charged with enticing a minor under the age of 16, a class D felony.

The arrest of Lopez Gomez follows four other individuals who were charged with the same offense after traveling to Marion County on May 29th and 30th. Julian Huerta, 22, of Des Moines, Benjamin Michael Nyland, 29, of Prairie City, Kevin Eugene Jones, 61, of Des Moines, and Jeremy Daniel Fortisi, 28, of West Des Moines, were also all charged with enticing a minor under the age of 16.

In addition to the agencies who assisted with the arrest of Lopez-Gomez, the Knoxville, Pleasantville, Melcher-Dallas, and Council Bluffs Police Departments assisted, as did the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation and U.S. Attorney’s office.
