The PCM baseball team is a week away from starting their 2020 season. With only two weeks to formally prepare, the Mustangs will try to work around losing a plethora of quality players to graduation, including five of last year’s top seven batters. Head Coach Jeff Lindsay says that while it’s tough to lose that much talent at once, he looks forward to the production and leadership from players such as Dane Owens, and last year’s batting champion, Sage Burns.

“Losing the seniors that we lost last year, those were a lot of guys that played for several years. It’s not like they just all of a sudden got to play varsity baseball their last two years, some of them were three or four-year starters. So of course that’s always going to be a tough replacement. But with Dane returning, Sage also, they hit real well last year. You got Caleb Duinink behind the plate, this will be his third year starting behind the plate on varsity, and he’s really improved each year at the plate and he’s looking really good hitting the ball right now. Derek Brown, he’s been a varsity player for five years. Most of it’s been at pitching, but some of it’s been a third base and first base when needed. Those are going to be the core guys right now that we’re going to be leaning on.”

On the mound, Derek Brown will be the team’s ace in his final season in a Mustang uniform after four prior years of varsity pitching work. PCM gets the season underway on Monday, June 15th at home vs. South Hamilton.
