The 2020 PCM softball team will be a young one, dominated by a large number of freshmen and sophomores. While there is plenty of youth, it is not a team lacking varsity experience, as many of those underclassmen played and started last season as freshmen and eighth graders. Head Coach Shaun Hudnut says that last season’s team exceeded expectations despite the lack of varsity experience, and he looks for this year’s team to take it to the next level with new leadership.
“We exceeded expectations I think for the most part last year, having such a young team. The previous year PCM was 2-15, and we went 9-18 with an extremely young team. We graduated two very important cogs in the lineup in Anna Shaver behind the plate and Cameron Wignall at shortstop, so we have to find a way to replace those two. Not necessarily the positions, but just who they were as leaders on this team.”
PCM has only one senior on this year’s team in Hailey Schutte. The Mustangs have no juniors, four sophomores, 10 freshmen and five eighth graders. PCM opens the season this Monday at home against South Hamilton.
