The Marion County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday. The board held a public hearing to discuss the Prairie Ridge Development Agreement in Pella to which the board approved a resolution authorizing execution of the agreement. They held a public hearing regarding a proposed fiscal year 2020 Marion County budget amendment and approved a resolution adopting the amended budget. The board approved a special event application from Cairn Yoga and Wellness Studio to provide Free Yoga on the Lawn every Saturday through August 29th, 2020 as well as set a public hearing date of June 23rd for the disposition of county property to the Marion County Fair Board. Supervisor Steve McCombs explains the reason for the disposition of property was due to the county owning portions of property currently controlled by the Marion County Fair Board. He says for everyone’s sake it made more sense to give control of that property to the fair board as it was already assumed to be theirs anyway.
The board approved a resolution designating the Des Moines Register as the county’s temporary newspaper for publication of legal notices. They held a discussion regarding departmental reorganization and position eliminations to which they approved the elimination of the Geographic Information Systems position and instead will incorporate new positions under the Information Technology department. The move was made for the county to continue to meet more challenges from a technology perspective according to Supervisor Mark Raymie. In addition to the elimination of the Geographic Information Systems position, the supervisors also approved the elimination of two part time positions with Senior Nutrition as the positions were deemed to be not needed.
