The Pella Christian baseball and softball teams are set to begin a four week regular season today as Iowa High School athletes statewide return to competition.

The Eagles make the short trip down Highway 163 to take on Oskaloosa for varsity action, with both games proving to be an early test for each Monday evening.

Pella Christian’s softball team will start against an Indians squad with eyes on the top prize in Class 4A, as Oskaloosa has been ranked 4th and returns several key players from the 2019 state quarterfinals team. Second-team Class 4A All-State pitcher Hayle Hacker leads a group that has all but one starter returning from their state team.

The Eagles baseball team will face an Indians squad that finished 22-11 and was edged by Solon in the Class 3A District playoffs last summer. Oskaloosa returns their top four hitters and three of their top four pitchers from the 2019 team. The Eagles will counter with eight returning seniors, all of whom will try to fill the large shoes left by the now-graduated Will Dembski, Lawson Bruxvoort, and Cole Webster.

Opening day coverage begins Monday night with Pella Christian vs. No. 4 Oskaloosa in softball, live on 92.1 KRLS, with pregame at 7:00. Frequent updates of the baseball game will also be given over the air.
